The "heart" that is spoken of here is a metaphor for the original consciousness that keeps the body alive in the states of deep sleep, dreaming and waking. That original consciousness is always present but in ordinary usage we only think of consciousness as being present in the more limited sense when our imagined self is awake and instrumentally, that is through the senses, aware of the world.
The deeper understanding of consciousness, the understanding that is being hastened through these poems, involves moving beyond our ordinary understanding by taking the time and making the effort of being aware our ideas of self as they rise up and appear reflected within that original consciousness. Take a moment and move from the ordinary out turned mind to the extraordinary in turned mind and identify the voice and images of your own imagination as reflected in consciousness; do it now.
In this site I continue to use the "three interpretations" method of identifying various points of view that may used to understand the poems contained in the "Tip of The Writing Brush". Of the three, this site is dedicated to the point of view of someone who is following a path of returning their mind to its original pristine condition also called returning the mind to being one with God's mind, single-heartedness or "single-hearted salvation". Other Newpath sites such as Tenrikyo Dynamic, Mindsweeper.org and Tenrikyo-Ofudesaki.org go into more detail concerning the interpretations of a "child" and of a "parent" and of course all are welcome to use them according to interest and need. This current site however deals exclusively with the path of quickly awakening and understanding the true origin of one's own mind, the path of single-hearted salvation. To quickly complete this path one needs only a mind, determination and true sincerity.
